This is one of my favorite emails that I received here at work, I have read this for a couple of times now but it always breaks my heart every time I read it. Whoever made up this story, you sure is one brilliant person. For those who haven’t read or know this story I have it here for all of you.

A man came home from work late, tired and irritated, to find his 5-year old son waiting for him at the door.

SON: ‘Daddy, may I ask you a question?’

DAD: ‘Yeah sure, what is it?’ replied the man.

SON: ‘Daddy, how much do you make an hour?’

DAD: ‘That’s none of your business. Why do you ask such a thing?’ the man said angrily.

SON: ‘I just want to know. Please tell me, how much do you make an hour?’

DAD: ‘If you must know, I make $100 an hour.’

SON: ‘Oh,’ the little boy replied, with his head down.

SON: ‘Daddy, may I please borrow $50?’

The father was furious, ‘If the only reason you asked that is so you can borrow some money to buy a silly toy or some other nonsense, then you march yourself straight to your room and go to bed. Think about why you are being so selfish. I work hard every day for such this childish behavior.’

The little boy quietly went to his room and shut the door.

The man sat down and started to get even angrier about the little boy’s questions. How dare he ask such questions only to get some money?

After about an hour or so, the man had calmed down, and started to think: Maybe there was something he really needed to buy with that $50 and he really didn’t ask for money very often. The man went to the door of the little boy’s room and opened the door.

‘Are you asleep, son?’ He asked.

‘No daddy, I’m awake,’ replied the boy.

‘I’ve been thinking, maybe I was too hard on you earlier’ said the man.

‘It’s been a long day and I took out my aggravation on you. Here’s the $50 you asked for.’

The little boy sat straight up, smiling. ‘Oh, thank you daddy!’ He yelled.

Then, reaching under his pillow he pulled out some crumpled up bills. The man saw that the boy already had money, started to get angry again. The little boy slowly counted out his money, and then looked up at his father.
‘Why do you want more money if you already have some?’ the father grumbled.

‘Because I didn’t have enough, but now I do,’ the little boy replied.

‘Daddy, I have $100 now. Can I buy an hour of your time? Please come home early tomorrow. I would like to have dinner with you.’

The father was crushed. He put his arms around his little son, and he begged for his forgiveness.

It’s just a short reminder to all of you working so hard in life. We should not let time slip through our fingers without having spent some time with those who really matter to us, those close to our hearts.

Do remember to share that $100 worth of your time with someone you love.

If we die tomorrow, the company that we are working for could easily replace us in a matter of days.

But the family & friends we leave behind will feel the loss for the rest of their lives.

And come to think of it, we pour ourselves more into work than to our family.

I would like to emphasize this line, “If we die tomorrow, the company that we are working for could easily replace us in a matter of days.” this is so true. Moral lesson here, don’t be a workaholic. You still have another life out side work.

Here is another scam email that I received on my other email account. I don’t have any account, contact, affiliation or what so ever with Ivoirian chamber of commerce and industry. I don’t even know what or who this company is or does it really exist?. Here is the whole email;

Every day you receive emails from different people so you know and some you don’t. Emails may contain advertisements, invitation and worst are these emails that are created to fool you get your personal information like your email address, credit card no. , account no., etc. And use this information for their benefit. You already know what that means. So I decided to post these emails that are suspected to be created by these hooligans or emails that appears to be suspicious. Here is one of them; (I’ll paste the email itself and the picture that he attached to it.)

Partial list of Milk and Milk Products Tested for the Presence of Melamine

Recently, I have posted the list of products suspected to be contaminated but the industrial compound melamine. And I also mentioned there that the list was not from a reliable source. Now I have a list that is really from a very reliable source. From our Bureau of Food and Drugs (BFAD). They have already released a partial list of the products tested for the presence of Melamine. This list is as of Oct. 3, 2008.

How to uninstall the google toolbar from your browser

One of the problems I had today was about a google tool bar. The customer wanted to remove the google toolbar from his Internet Explorer. He thinks that it’s what causing the errors that keeps popping up and giving him slowness in opening web pages. Let me repeat dear readers, my client thought that it’s the google toolbar that is causing the errors and slowness. I hope that this is clear to all of you guys; it’s my client’s suspicion. Guys, it’s not solicited. What made it very interesting is the fact that I don’t have any idea on how to remove it from his computer. For a few seconds I almost thought of pressing the panic button. But he then told me that he might found the way to remove it. Sigh, what a relief. He didn’t tell me though, I’m still left with the question to do you uninstall it?

I did a bit of a research about it, and guess where I found the right solution? I found it from the maker itself Google.com. Things don’t really come in handy when you really need them. If you want to uninstall it; for whatever reason; here is the steps on you can do that.

1. One way to uninstall this toolbar is by clicking the down arrow on the wrench icon it looks like this .

2. Select Uninstall and click the Uninstall the Google Toolbar button.

Now if you don’t have the wrench icon, you can;

1. Click Settings and select Help.

2. Select Uninstall and click on Uninstall the Google Toolbar button.

You can also uninstall it in from Control Panel;

1. Click Start on your computer’s taskbar.

2. Select Control Panel.

3. Double-click Add or Remove Programs.

4. Select Google Toolbar for IE.

5. Click the Remove button.

If you are using Firefox you can follow the first two steps above. Or you can uninstall if from Add-ons window. Just follow these steps.

1. On you Firefox click on Tools.

2. Select Add-ons.

3. Select Google Toolbar for Firefox.

4. Click the Uninstall button.

Milk Scandal

Recently I was into my new addiction, milk. But it was abruptly ended with incredibly shocking news about milks imported from China (no offense to people from China). At first I thought that it was just the non-commercial milks that were affected by this so called “milk scandal”. So, you probably know what I am talking about right now. Yes, it’s the melamine found in dairy or milk products from China.

I checked this melamine thing that is so popular right now. According to Mr. Wikipedia and Wise Geek, Melamine is an organic compound that is often combined with formaldehyde to produce melamine resin, a synthetic polymer which is fire resistant and heat tolerant. Melamine resin is a very versatile material with a highly stable structure. In other words, it’s one main component to create a resin. You use this resin to create floor tiles, Pet water bottles, white boards, fire resistant fabrics and commercial filters. It sure is very useful for industrial applications.

But this compound is not for human’s consumption. And this compound is slightly soluble in water, so you know what I mean. According to our country’s health department kidney stones is the main consequence of exposure to this compound. And in China children that drink and still drink milk were the ones greatly affected by this. And our Bureau of Food and Drugs advised the consumers not to buy, for the time being, milk or any product suspected to have a milk ingredient from China until further notice or until this Bureau have tested the samples or come up with the list of the products that are not safe and fit for human consumption.

One of my friends posted a bulletin regarding products that was recalled due to China’s milk situation. Let me just make myself clear here, this information is not guaranteed to be reliable or from a reliable source. Here is the message, just want to share it.

How to set-up a Linksys router using DSL service

I just want to share to all you readers this information on how to install your newly bought router to work with your DSL service (It could be a DSL service from Verizon or Bellsouth/AT&T) using a Westell Modem. For this post we will use the Linksys wireless router, it’s the WRT54G. But this is not just for a wireless router it also applies to a wired router. This will give you a step by step guide on how to manually configure the router for internet connection.

First we need to check how you get online through your modem. If you automatically get online through the modem this is the step that you need to follow.

Reminder:

When I say you automatically connect to the internet through the modem, this means that when you have your computer wired directly to the DSL modem (most of the time your modem provided by your ISP is Westell Modem) you just open the internet explorer or firefox and you automatically go online or open your web pages. And you did not put a username and password before getting online.

Step 1. Let’s start with physical connection.

Using an Ethernet cable (the blue cable that came with the router), connect your computer to port no. 1 on the back of the router and plug the power for the router. Lights on the front panel of the router should be Power (solid green), WLAN/Wireless (Green), and No.1 (blinking green).

Step 2. Access the setup page of the router.

On you computer open your browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Netscape, etc). Then type in the address bar http://192.168.1.1/ and hit Enter or click Go. It will ask you for a username and password by default there is no username and the password is “admin”.

Step 3. Configure the Internet Settings.

After typing the username and password it will take you to the Setup page of the router. Make sure that the internet connection type is set to Automatic Configuration DHCP, by default this is the setting of the router, might as well check it to make sure. Then on the same page look for Local IP Address and change the address to 192.168.2.1 now after changing those settings, click Save Settings at the very bottom of the page. After you save it you will get a message that you need to release and renew your IP address, just click OK and then hit Close.

Step 4. Connecting the router to the modem.

To connect you router to the modem I suggest you turn off the router, just unplug the power for it. Then connect the DSL modem to the internet port on the back of the Linksys router. Power on the Linksys router, the lights that you should have there are Power (Solid Green), Wireless/WLAN. Port no.1 where the wired computer is plugged in to and the Internet light (flashing green). And now we are done setting up the router for internet connection. You can now open your browser on the computer and surf the web.

If you will still not be able to get online you can repair the LAN connection or reboot/restart the computer.

How to configure a Linksys router with Cable Internet

I copied this from my other blog site to add more entries on here. I am posting it here right now for others to see and this might be very helpful to them.

This guide is recommended for Cable Internet Service in the USA like Charter, Cox, Comcast, Cable Vision, HomeTelecom, etc.

First you need to connect the device together. You need to connect your cable modem to the internet port on the back of the router, and the computer should go to one of the 4-port on the router labeled Ethernet (1, 2, 3, 4).
Then turn on the modem first, wait for the lights to stabilize before powering on the Linksys router. Lights that you should have on the router are Power (solid green), Wireless/WLAN (Green sometimes flashing), One of the no. lights where the computer is plugged in (flashing), And the internet light (flashing).

After doing this step there are times that this will already get you online. If the internet will not work, you continue following the steps 3.

3. If the internet is still not working; we will need to adjust a setting on the router setup page. To access the setup page of the router you need to open your internet explorer or Firefox on the computer that is hardwired directly to the router. In the address bar of your browser (Internet Explorer or Firefox) type http://192.168.1.1/ and hit enter or click Go. It will ask you for a user name and password. Just type “admin” for the password field and there is no user name. If you have ran the setup CD prior to this, then use the password that you have set when were running the setup CD.

4. Once you are in the setup page of your router make sure that the Internet Connection Type is set to Automatic Configuration DHCP, then click the save the settings button at the bottom of the page. After saving the settings, click the sub tab at the very top of the page that says MAC Address Clone. Set it to enable and click the button that will say Clone or Clone your PC’s MAC and save the settings again.

5. After doing step 4, do a power cycle. Power cycle is done by turning of the router, modem and computer. Leave them off for a minute, tuned them back on in this order. Modem first wait for the lights to stabilize, then the router wait until the power light become solid. Then turn on the computer. This will get you online through the router.

After a long quiescent I am back and ready to blog about anything again. If some of you are wondering where I’ve been or whatever happened to me. Well, I was on training for a new account for a couple of weeks and we have limited access to the internet and computer. Now everything seems to be normal again and I’ll continue blogging about anything. So blogmates, blog on!
